We’ve visited Canada twice, exploring both by boat during our 6,000-mile journey around America’s Great Loop, where we cruised through some of the best freshwater cruising grounds in the entire world, and again in our van during the summer of 2025, where we explored the Canadian Rockies, Tombstone Territorial Park, and enjoyed some epic road trips on our way to Alaska.

Ontario

Kingston
Kingston, Ontario, is known for its hip live music scene, great food scene, walkable downtown, and proximity to the St. Lawrence River on Lake Ontario. We went on a 2-day food tour here and had a blast!
Alberta
Alberta is home to the Canadian Rockies, including some of Canada’s most popular National Parks. We crossed into Alberta, Canada, with our van and explored some of this beautiful area.
British Columbia
Alaska Highway (ALCAN)
The 1,390 miles (2,236 km) Alaska Highway starts in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and ends in Delta Junction, Alaska. This incredible road trip is one of two routes to get to Alaska.

Stewart-Cassiar Highway
The 543.55 miles (874.76 km) Stewart-Cassiar Highway is the alternative route to Alaska. We drove this route north and were blown away by its beauty!
Yukon
Tombstone Territorial Park
Tombstone Territorial Park is known for its dramatic, rugged mountain peaks, earning it the nickname “Patagonia of the North.” We backpacked for 5 days on the Grizzly, Divide, and Talus Lakes Trail.

The Dempster Highway
The Dempster Highway is 549 miles (884 kilometers) of gravel road that runs from the Yukon up to the Northwest Territory. This rugged route opened in 1979 and made history as the first all-weather road to cross the Arctic Circle, taking travelers up to the Arctic Ocean.
Northern Territory
The Dempster Highway
We drove the Dempster Highway from Yukon to the Northern Territory to reach the Arctic Ocean. We share everything we learned from where to fuel up, campsites, attractions, and more in our complete guide to the Dempster Highway.

Thousand Islands
The Thousand Islands are located east of Lake Ontario on the St. Lawrence River and are some of the most magical cruising grounds we have explored! Here are our videos on the Thousand Islands:
Kingston

Kingston, Ontario, is known for its hip live music scene, great food scene, walkable downtown, and proximity to the St. Lawrence River on Lake Ontario. We went on a 2-day food tour here and had a blast!
Trent-Severn Waterway
The 386 km (240 miles) Trent-Severn Waterway connects Trenton to Port Severn, which connects Lake Ontario to Lake Huron. The Trent-Severn Waterway has been called “one of the finest interconnected systems of navigation in the world” for good reason. We documented our travels through daily vlogs!
Unique Locks on the Trent-Severn
The Trent-Severn Waterway has 44 locks, including 37 conventional locks, two sets of flight locks, two hydraulic lift locks, and a marine railway.
Georgian Bay

Georgian Bay’s inlets, coves, and islands make this region some of the best freshwater cruising in the world. Its striking geological features date back to the last ice age when glaciers exposed granite bedrock known as the Canadian Shield. It’s also the traditional domain of the Anishinaabeg First Nations peoples and Huron-Petun (Wyandot).
North Channel
North Channel is the northmost section of Lake Huron and is located north of Manitoulin Island. Killarney is the eastern “entrance to the North Channel.” This was our favorite part of Canada for its remoteness and natural beauty!
